Karl Mixson

FAIRMONT — Services for Karl “Scotty” J. Mixson, 97, of Fairmont, Minn., formerly of Monticello, Ind., will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial will be held at a later date in Riverview Cemetery in Monticello, Ind. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service from 10-11 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Karl passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Ingelside Care Center in Fairmont, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Karl “Scotty” James Mixson was born on October 22, 1926, in New York City, N.Y., the son of Edwin and Margurite (McLaughlin) Mixson. Scotty enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 and served his country proudly during World War II seeing action in the Pacific Theatre. In 1946, Karl received his honorable discharge and returned home to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he attended Brooklyn Poly Tech and earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1948.

On January 2, 1950, Karl was united in marriage to Joan Miriam Gaynor. Together the couple made their home in Owensboro, Ky., St. Albans, W.Va., Metuchen, N.J., Downers Grove, Illinois, Cunningham, Pa., Hinsdale, Illinois and Monticello, Ind. Following Joan’s passing in August 2007, Scotty later moved to Fairmont, Minn., to be closer to family.

Karl was an avid golfer and looked forward to warm summer days spent at the course. He was talented with stained-glass and loved making many different stained-glass creations and furniture. While in Fairmont, Scotty was an active member of Kiwanis and was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Charles (Penny) Mixson of Fairmont, Minn., Christoppher (Betsy) Mixson of Arroyo Seco, N.M. and Timothy Mixson of Sycamore, Illinois; grandchildren, Matthey, Ashley and Colin; as well as many other extended family and friends.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Margurite Mixson; wife, Joan Mixson; infant son, Douglas Mixson; and two sisters, Florence and Dorothy Jane.
