Sena Berkness

FAIRMONT –Private services for Sena D. Berkness, age 87, of Fairmont, Minn. will be held with burial at Belmont Lutheran Church in rural Jackson, Minn. Sena passed away Friday, December 29, 2023 at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sena Darlene Spieker was born July 11, 1936 in Ransom Township in Nobles County, Minn., daughter of John and Sena (Kruse) Spieker. Growing up she attended school in Worthington, Minn.

On June 30, 1960 she was united in marriage to Harlan Berkness in Worthington. They were blessed with six children: Dean, Mark, Dawn, Sheila, Dale and Allan. The family lived in Lakefield and Jackson and then upon Sena and Harlan’s retirement they moved to Fox Lake. Sena and Harlan then moved to Goldfinch Estates Assisted Living in Fairmont where they enjoyed the community living and have made many friends. Sena has resided at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center for the last three years.

Sena was a long time member of Belmont Lutheran Church. She enjoyed music, especially country music concerts at the local county fairs, watching western tv shows and movies, going for walks and had a love for cats. Family was most important to her and spending time with her children and grandchildren was most special to her.

Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Harlan Berkness of Fairmont, Minn.; children, Dean Berkness of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Mark Berkness of Trimont, Minn., Dawn (Ricardo) Donacio of El Paso, Texas, Sheila Berkness of Fairmont, Minn., Dale (Carrie) Berkness of South Londonderry, Vt. and Allan (Marsha) Berkness of Fairmont, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, John and Sena Spieker, Sena was preceded in death by her brothers, George Spieker, Raymond Spieker, Wilbert Spieker and John Spieker, Jr; and sisters, Frances Moret, Sylvia Baddgor, Patsy Galema, and Viola Weerts.
