Marlene Baldwin
SHERBURN– A private family graveside service for Marlene Jo (Mrs. Malo) Baldwin, 87, of Minnetonka, Minn., formerly of Sherburn, Minn. will be held in Sherburn Cemetery. Marlene passed away supported by hospice at her family home in Minnetonka, Minn. Saturday, December 16, 2023. Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn is assisting the family with arrangements. A private family funeral will be held in Sherburn, Minn.
Marlene Jo Baldwin was born March 25, 1936, in Pipestone, Minn. Marlene grew up in Sherburn, Minn. in her family home/hospital clinic. She spent summers with her Swedish immigrant grandparents at their farm near Braham, Minn. Marlene graduated from Sherburn High School in 1954 and went on to earn her B.A. in Nursing at Hamline University. Marlene worked for over 20 years in the Obstetrics Gynecology unit at Fairview Hospital (Mpls) where she retired as supervisor. She remained lifelong friends with many nursing class peers.
Marlene designed the family home in Minnetonka as well as the family cabin at Ruby Lake, Balsam Township, spending many summers enjoying the Northwoods. Marlene was a terrific gourmet cook, originally trained by Verna Meyers. She and Marlo loved sporting events being Vikings season ticket holders since 1969. Many Sundays were spent tailgating with dear friends and family from the Purple Bus at the old Met Stadium and cheering on the MN Gophers Basketball team from the 5th row, center court. Marlene was an excellent downhill skier and loved annual fishing trips to northern Ontario. She played a strong game of Bridge and was an avid reader. She was a long-time member of the Minneapolis Chapter of AAUW and the Mpls WomenÕs Club, wearing tasteful designer clothing to any event. Marlene and Marlo were members of the Minneapolis Gospel Tabernacle and later Colonial Church of Edina. Marlene played piano, organ and drums. Marlene traveled the world, often with her daughter, visiting places such as Egypt, Turkey, China, Hong Kong, Peru, Bolivia, Germany, Poland, Greece, England, Italy, France, Austria, and Serbia.
Marlene is survived by the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Marlo Dean Baldwin; her daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Baldwin and Roger Walker (husband) of Minnetonka; her son, Dr. Matthew and Mira (wife) Baldwin of Lake Elmo; along with three grandchildren, Jonathan Baldwin of Fort Worth, Texas and twins Daniella and Gabriella Baldwin of Annapolis, Md. (Naval Academy); and her faithful Bichon, Momma Mia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Merlyn John and Helen Marie Lindahl; her beloved brother, Gary Herbert Lindahl; her parents-in-law, Wilbur and Luella Baldwin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Friends of the Hennepin County Library.
