Ruth Schwieger

JACKSON — A Celebration of Life Service for Ruth Schwieger, 87, formerly of Jackson and Fairmont will be 1 p.m., Saturday, November 11 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont with Pastor Wade Daul officiating. Visitation will be at 12 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Jackson. Ruth passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 in Brookfield, Wis.

Ruth Marlys Murk was born March 28, 1936, on the family farm in Amor Township, Otter Tail County, Minn., the daughter of Harold and Rhoda (Lien) Murk. She graduated from high school at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, Minn., and went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics education. Ruth was united in marriage to Delbert Schwieger on December 28, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church in Amor, Minn. They moved to Jackson, Minn., in 1960. Following Delbert’s death in 2011, she moved to Fairmont, Minn. Ruth passed away at the age of 87 years on October 1, 2023, at Brookdale Senior Living Memory Care in Brookfield, Wis., where she had been a resident since April 2021.

Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont and was an active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the mission quilting group. She loved to read and was a very talented needleworker and seamstress who made many beautiful clothes, quilts, hardanger embroidery pieces, and other needlework projects for family, friends, and churches through the years.

Ruth is survived by son Theodore (Ann) Schwieger of Cottage Grove, Minn., and daughter Kay Schwieger, of New Berlin, Wis.; sisters-in-law Dorothy Anderst, Devy Schwieger, Eunice Day, Doris Schwieger, and Marlene Griffith; brother-in-law Daniel Griffith; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Rhonda, infant son Bradley, brother and sister-in-law Donald and Mary Lou Murk; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Milton and Erline Schwieger, Wilbert and Luverna Hartmann, Gary and Marian Schwieger, Donald and Lois Swenson, and Donald and Mary Armbrust; and brothers-in-law Roland Anderst, Lynn Schwieger, Orland Day, and James Schwieger.
