Edwin H. Wohlers
SONOMA, Calif. — Edwin Henry Wohlers, 101, of Sonoma, Calif., passed away Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, after a brief illness. Private graveside services will be held at Oakmont Cemetery, Lafayette, Calif.
Edwin was born Feb. 17, 1922, to Caroline and Henry Wohlers, behind the wood stove in the kitchen of their farmhouse in Trimont, Minn. Edwin completed an 8th grade education in a one-room schoolhouse in the country. He went on to work with his family on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army with the 50th Combat Engineers and served in WWII in the Aleutian Islands.
In 1945 he returned from the Army to reunite with his sweetheart, Donna Brodt. Ed and Donna went on to have three children, Trudy, Diane and Todd. In 1959 Ed and Donna sold the family farm and moved to Concord, Calif. They eventually moved to Clayton, Calif., and were long time members of First Lutheran Church. Edwin joined “Aid Association for Lutheran’s” for a successful career as an award-winning insurance salesman. Ed retired in 1987 and spent his time travelling to all 50 states with his wife in their RV’s.
Ed was predeceased by his daughter, Trudy Carter; son, Todd Wohlers; and loving wife, Donna. Edwin is survived by his daughter, Diane Herrala of Sonoma; granddaughter, Nicole Bolman of Gridley, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Hush Bolman of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and grandson, Christopher Carter of Petaluma, Calif.
The family would like to thank Cogir of Sonoma for hosting Ed’s 100th birthday party during which he toured the Sonoma Plaza in his favorite car, a Ford Model T roadster provided by Redwood Empire Model T Club. Also, we would like to thank Sonoma Greens for their loving care in his final days and Continuum Hospice for all their support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Ed’s favorite charity, “Smile Train,” https://www.smiletrain.org.
