Vicki Lou was born June 16, 1950, to Mervin and Hildegard (Karau) Wegner in Fairmont, Minn. She attended elementary school in Lewisville and graduated from Truman High School. Vicki went on to further her education at Mankato State College for 2 more years. She loved growing up on the family farm and enjoyed many memories of her family there. On Nov. 1, 1975, she married Thomas Hawkes and made their home in Madelia until moving to the farm house near Lewisville in 1986. Vicki wore many hats, from working at Winnie Mart, Cenex, and Aerospace Commercial but her favorite job was taking care of her family and teaching her sons how to enjoy farm life and how to be very kind men. They enjoyed backyard fires, celebrated many holidays together and enjoyed Vicki’s wonderful cooking. You would most likely see her watching her boys play softball as she was their biggest fan. They all enjoyed watching the Vikings, even when they would lose, but it was something they did together. Vicki’s farm upbringing came out through planting and tending to her beautiful flowers. Many trips to nurseries to get more flowers filled up her time in the spring. She also loved her cats and kittens, and named every one of them. You could often see her outside on her lawn mower or pulling weeds around the yard. In the winter Vicki would ride along with Tom on his bus route and make friends with the children that were riding. Vicki loved her family and especially her grandchildren Gavin, Jackson and Giavanna.

Vicki is survived by her husband, Tom; sons, Jonathan (Abbie Kietzer), Christopher (Monica), and Nathaniel; grandchildren, Gavin, Jackson and Giavanna; sister, Myrna (Marv) Gag; brother, Richard (Jacque) Wegner; brothers-in-law, Daniel and Timothy Hawkes; and sister-in-law, Arlene Wegner. She was preceded by her parents; brothers, Donald, Merlin and Dallas; and sister, Sandra Hinderschied.

Vicki will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
