She was born July 19, 1954, to Eldor and Lois Breitbarth. She was baptized and confirmed at St John’s Lutheran church in Antrim Township, Watonwan County, Minn. where she attended school through 8th grade. After graduating from Truman High School, Barb enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard for two years. Barb married Vic Vandrey on July 29, 1975, and they had two sons, Ben and David. After farming they moved to Hettinger, N.D. where she began her nursing career. In 1987 they moved back to Truman where she worked as a nurse’s aide until retiring in 2020.

Barb was passionate about her family, helping the elderly and working with cats and dogs. She took pride in teaching her grandchildren how to cook, bake and sew. She enjoyed helping the elderly and would often mend their clothes outside of work. Barb also had a large vegetable garden and would share with family and friends.

Barb is survived by son, Ben (Alison) and grandsons, Calvin and Carter; son, David (Brianna) and granddaughters, Thea, Lyla and Maddie; brothers, Steven (Janelle), Alan (Cathy), Paul (Dianne); sister-in-law, Juleen; stepdaughters, Vickie and Phyllis; many nieces, nephews and good friends. Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Vic; stepson, Bill Vandrey; parents, Eldor and Lois; brother, Neal; and great-nephew, Mitchell. Memorials maybe made to Truman Senior Living or Martin County Humane Society.
