Gilbert J. Goraczkowski

FAIRMONT — A time of celebrating and remembering the life of Gilbert J. Goraczkowski, 68, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held at a later date.

Gilbert passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, near Ceylon, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gilbert Julian Goraczkowski was born Feb. 13, 1955, in Winnebago, Minn., the son of Rufine Felix and Margaret Martha Mae (Dennis) Goraczkowski. He grew up in the Bass Lake area of Faribault County and attended school in Winnebago and Delavan, Minn. In 1974, Gilbert was united in marriage to Sheryl Kay Schwab. The couple lived in Washington state for a short time, but returned to Minnesota where they lived in the Huntley area and raised their family. The couple later divorced but found great joy in their children. Gilbert loved cars and grew up during the era of awesome American muscle cars. On weekends, he could be found cruising around in his AMC Javelin, waiting for the next person to challenge him to a race. His passion for working on cars led to his hobby of working on and flying model airplanes. Following a move to Florida, Gilbert found his sea legs and looked forward to spending time on the ocean, trying his luck at landing the big one of the day. He treasured spending time with his family and friends, playing pool or darts and had a special place in his heart for his puppies.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Cassandra Johnson, Grant Goraczkowski, Desiree Goraczkowski and Candice Nichols; grandchildren, Chrishohn Goraczkowski, Machenzie Young, Stephanie Young, Kyle Goraczkowski, Audrey Goraczkowski and Keegan Asche; siblings, Gordon Nowak, Roger Nowak, Carol Richards, LaDonna Wandersee and Anne Ferrari; as well as many other extended family and friends. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Rufine and Margaret Goraczkowski; wife, Sheryl; daughter, Audra Goraczkowski; siblings, Eugene Nowak, Gloria Perrizo and Louise Miller. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
