FAIRMONT — Private family graveside services for Jean L. Strauss, 97, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held later in July at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.
Jean passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jean Louise (Nelson) Strauss was born July 8, 1925, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Willard and Alice (Logan) Nelson. She attended various schools throughout the metro area and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis, Minn. On May 26, 1945, Jean was united in marriage to Kenneth LeRoy Strauss in Minneapolis. Jean and Ken were blessed with two daughters, Susan and Julie. In 1950, the family moved to Fairmont where Jean worked as a bookkeeper for Mallard’s Eggs, Dr. Feia, optometrist and Buttrey’s clothing store. Jean loved playing bridge and was a member of numerous bridge clubs in the area. She was also passionate about golf and was an active member at Interlaken Golf Club. Jean enjoyed travelling and treasured the memories made on various international trips that she and Ken took together. Jean was also a true stickler for grammar and was constantly correcting her daughters. Family was a bright spot in Jean’s life and she was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren and cherished any opportunity to spend time with them. She was a wonderful housekeeper and those who visited often commented on how spotless her home was.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Susan Strauss and Julie Woodruff and her husband, Mike; two grandchildren, Amy Olson and Jill Johnson and her husband, Derek; two great-grandchildren, Chase Johnson and Reece Johnson; as well as many other extended family and friends. Jean also leaves behind her furry grandchildren, Jeanie, Maddie and Doo, and will unite with all the others that have gone before her. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Alice Nelson; husband, Dr. Kenneth Strauss; and six siblings.
