FAIRMONT — A memorial service for Dorothy M. Saxton, 98, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Burial will be at Harrison Township Cemetery, rural Swea City, Iowa. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Friday, June 30, at United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Dorothy passed away Friday morning, June 23, 2023, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center or the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dorothy Mae (Garlick) Saxton was born Jan. 6, 1925, near Huntley, in Faribault County, Minn., the daughter of Roscoe E. and Gertrude H. (Griffith) Garlick. She moved with her family to Pleasant Prairie Township as a child. Dorothy attended District 105 and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1943. Dorothy was united in marriage to Lyle Everett Saxton on June 13, 1943, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. They made their home and farmed near Granada in Pleasant Prairie Township where they raised their family. Dorothy worked very hard around the farm and kept busy as a homemaker.
In 1988, Dorothy and Lyle moved to Fairmont. Lyle passed away on Jan. 13, 2009. In 2013, Dorothy moved into Maplewood where she has resided for the past 10 years. Here she spent abundant quality time sharing her passion for playing cards, dominos and jigsaw puzzles with her friends. The Maplewood community meant a lot to her. She became a resident of Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont in May of 2023. Dorothy was a member of the Granada United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher and also active in UMW. In 2000, she became a member at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont where she continued to work in UMW and Circle. Dorothy enjoyed her family, her church and farming. Family gatherings were a highlight for her. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, cross-stitching and baking many cookies which she gave away and served at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sara (Paul) Rosol of Eden Prairie, Minn. and Calvin (Jody) Saxton of Granada, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, Janet (Jim) Glaser, Brenda Leinonen, Aaron (Vanessa) Saxton, Daniel Saxton, Anne (Dan) Saxton Wenz, Margo
(Mark) Becker, Zach (Annie) Rosol, Nate (Olivia) Rosol, Sam Rosol, Camren (fiancee, Iliana Ramon) Saxton and Carissa Saxton; 13 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Mattison, Alyssa, Kailee, Brittany, Evie, Stella, Owen, Zoe, Hadley, Charlotte, Noah and Theodore;
nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Gertrude Garlick; husband, Lyle Saxton; sons, infant John Saxton, Leland Saxton and Roger Saxton; grandson-in-law, Chris Leinonen; siblings, Arlene (George) Ellis, George (Bonnie) Garlick and Oliver (Marvetta) Garlick.
