Sheldon Kay Benoy

LAKOTA — Sheldon Kay Benoy of Lakota, Iowa, formerly of Truman, Minn., passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at his home. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Bethel Church, 501 4th St. SW in Madelia, Minn. His family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Sheldon was born April 1, 1952, in Winnebago, Minn., to Walter and Violet (Benson) Benoy. Growing up near Winnebago, he completed high school and went into the National Guard and then on to Wadena College where he earned his degree as a Linesman. Sheldon worked for the City of Truman as a linesman until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Shelley Benoy on April 7, 1989, and together in 34 years they raised 3 children, Derek (Janee), Monica, and Ashley (Jordan). A fierce love for his 6 grandchildren Tyson, Tegan, Brooklyn, Madilyn, Ali and Carolena and great-grandson Abel, he rarely missed a game or event they were in. He was their biggest fan. He did a lot of fishing, camping, and if you ever had the pleasure of sitting at his table, you know he was one of the best cooks. 3 dogs, 1 parakeet (kind of), many fish and some other animals crossed paths in the home, Buffy being his favorite. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bruce; father and mother-in-law, Russell and Flowrein Cramer. Blessed be the memory of Sheldon K. Benoy. Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona are in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left to www.oakcrestfuneralservices.com.
