ESTHERVILLE — Roger R. Christensen, died peacefully Thursday, June 8, 2023, at his home in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 80. A memorial service for him was held June 12 in Ringsted, Iowa. He will be laid to rest at a later date in Ringsted Memorial Cemetery,
Ringsted, Iowa.
Roger R. Christensen was born March 15, 1943, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of Raymond T. and Opal E. (Kiepke) Christensen. Roger’s family moved from South Dakota to Ringsted Iowa in 1944. He helped on the family farm and with the family trucking/corn shelling business while receiving his education and graduating from Ringsted High School in 1961. On Nov. 21, 1964, he was united in marriage to Betty Bentz in Truman, Minn. The couple made their home and farmed in rural Ringsted until they retired in 2009 and moved to Estherville. Roger enjoyed restoring and collecting antique tractors and going on antique tractor rides. Roger also enjoyed camping, traveling, pestering Betty and his grandchildren. Throughout his life he was a member of United Lutheran Church and involved with Emmet County Pork Producers, Ringsted CAC, Danish American Fellowship and Ingham Lake Bible Camp.
Left to cherish Roger’s memory are his wife, Betty of Estherville Iowa; children, Daniel (Stacy) Christensen of Ringsted, Iowa, Mark (Darcie) Christensen of Winnebago, Minn., Jennifer (Andy) Gerovac of Brandon, S.D. and Amanda (Chris) Cox of Independence, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Paulette Guse; and multiple nieces and nephews.
