Mary J. Gellert

ALTOONA, Wis. — Services for Mary J. Gellert, 87, of Altoona, Wis., formerly of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn., with burial following the service in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today, June 1, 2023, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Mary passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, Wis. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mary Jane (Bridges) Gellert was born July 31, 1935, in Galveston, Texas, the daughter of John and I. Christine (Messer) Bridges. Mary attended elementary school in Galveston, Texas and graduated from Ceylon Public High School in Ceylon, Minn. On June 6, 1954, Mary

was united in marriage to Roland Gellert at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon, Minn. This union was blessed with four children, Mark, Karen, Kathryn and Michael. The couple resided near Wilbert, Minn., where Mary helped Roland on the farm as well as working with Water and Light in Fairmont. She later worked in the Martin County Treasurer’s office from October of 1969 where she served as the deputy treasurer until her retirement in 1998. Mary and Roland shared over 51 years together before Roland passed away on Dec. 3, 2005. Mary was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn., where she was active with the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Eagles for a brief time. During her free time, Mary enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, reading and playing BINGO. She always found it to be a special treat when she was able to listen to Glen Henriksen play the piano and dancing, especially with her friend Laura Nagle.

Left to cherish her memory include her children, Mark (Peggy) Gellert and their children, Matthew, Megan, Steve and Ryan; Karen (Joseph) Dolan and their children, Patrick, Phillip, Anne and Kathryn; Kathryn (Gerald) Pedersen and their children, Terry, Lynn and LeeAnn; and Michael Gellert and his children, Aston and Adam; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Nova (Steve) Boughton; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Harris) Eng; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Christine Prust;

father, John Bridges; stepfather, Vernon Prust; sisters, Delores (Norman) Odegaard and Betty Thiesse; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randall and Gay Gellert. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
