Geraldine “Geri” M. Shaikoski
FAIRMONT — Services for Geraldine “Geri” M. (Vanderwerf-Jeske) Shaikoski, 94, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2023, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Arco City Cemetery, Arco, Minn. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Friday, May 19, at Lakeview Funeral Home.
Geri passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Geraldine “Geri” was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Tracy, Minn., the daughter of Wilbert Vanderwerf and Irene Bedow. On Sept. 28, 1949, Geri was united in marriage to Harry Shaikoski at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno, Minn. Together the couple was blessed with three children, Marlene, Wanda, and Neal and made their home in Canby and Hendricks, Minn., before making their home in Fairmont, Minn. Geri worked various jobs around Fairmont including waitressing, cleaning homes and also working in a veterinarian office for a couple of years before retiring in 1999. In her retirement, Geri helped work at the Crisis Support Center as a volunteer and found great joy in the quiet time spent crocheting and working on painting with acrylic and oil paints. Geri loved animals and cared for many pets and stray four legged friends throughout the years. She looked forward to the summer months and tending to her garden and flower beds.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Marlene (Mike) Johnson of Fairmont, Minn., Wanda Shaikoski of Welcome, Minn. and Neal (Rhonda) Shaikoski of Thornton, Iowa; grandchildren, Tim (Deborah) Shaikoski, Chad (Lizelle) Shell, Brent Shaikoski, Lane Shaikoski, Birk (Jamie) Shaikoski, Ryan (Christy) Johnson, Chris (Stephanie) Johnson and Jeremy (Keri) Johnson; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Janice (Dennis) Krueger of Svea, Minn., Gary (Jody) Vanderwerf of Windom, Minn., Roy (Sally) Vanderwerf of Minneapolis, Minn., Twollie Vanderwerf of Hartland, Minn. and Kevin (Kim) Vanderwerf of Oro Valley, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Dean Mitzner; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Geri was preceded in death by her parents and step-parents, Irene (Clarence) Jeske and Wilbert (Bernita) Vanderwerf; an infant brother; sisters, Donna Frost, Judy Warnke, Vivian Johnson, Millie Anderson and Phyllis Mitzner; brothers-in-law, Gene Johnson and Melvin Warnke.
