Anita Rae Rice

NORTH MANKATO — Anita Rae Rice, age 87, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from injuries resulting from a fall. A private memorial service will be held at Monarch Meadows in North Mankato, Minn.

Anita was born in Duluth, Minn., to Floyd and Harriet Rice. The family lived in Bruno, and later moved to Fairmont, where Anita attended school. While Anita was in high school, the family moved to Cambridge and Anita remained in Fairmont to finish her senior year. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1954. After high school, Anita was employed by Fairmont Canning, where she worked on the production lines and later, in the office. After working a few years at Fairmont Canning, she attended Northwest Airline training program for office employees and was employed in the Minneapolis office. She later returned to Fairmont, where she met and married Jim Trembley. They were later divorced. Anita moved to Odessa and Canyon Lake, Texas, where she lived for many years and then returned to Fairmont. As children, Anita and her sister Nancy, loved to recite poems and sing hymns. Although they didn’t see each other often in later life, there was a distinct and loving bond between them. She always looked forward to Christmas because this was family time with her mother and sister, which included baking Anita’s favorite Trilby cookies. Anita had a passion for reading and her favorite and often-read book was Gone with the Wind. She also had a passion for pets and at one time had 18 pets at her Canyon Lake, Texas home. One of her favorite dogs was a loving pitbull, Bobo, who loved retrieving a bowling ball Anita rolled across the lawn for him. Her last and much-loved dog, Sonny Boy, is now in the caring home of a good friend, Robin Weibe. Anita enjoyed being outdoors as much as possible and looked forward to winter passing so she could go walking. In earlier years, she was known for her ‘Green Thumb’ and was often found working in her garden. She had a quick wit, was brilliant with crossword puzzles, and didn’t want anyone to fuss over her. Most of all, she loved her children. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nancy; and daughters, Vanessa and Chantal. She is survived by sons, Shane (Tina) Trembley and family of Royalton, Jay Trembley and family of Fairmont and Chris (Bethany) and family of North Mankato. Memorials may be sent to Martin County Humane Society, 522 E.

Margaret St., Fairmont, MN 56031.
