John R. Rosenberg
BROOKLYN PARK — John Robert Rosenberg died peacefully from complications of cancer Sunday, April 9, 2023, at home in Brooklyn Park, Minn., with family at his side. A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, Minn., with visitation from noon to 2 p.m.
John was born Nov. 25, 1933, at home, the second of five children born to Robert and Frieda (Leiding) Rosenberg. He was born, raised, and went to school in rural Dunnell, Minn. John first dated LaVaun Green at the Interlaken ballroom in Fairmont, Minn. on Thanksgiving Day evening in 1956. They were married in Ledyard, Iowa on Sept. 27, 1958, and raised three children, Angela, Gregory and Laura. John moved to Fairmont when he was 19 years old to work at the Fairmont Canning Company. He remained a devoted employee of the “plant” as it changed owners and names over the years. After 55 years, he retired from Fairmont Foods in 2007. As a young man, John enjoyed dancing, roller skating and playing softball. He was a loyal fan of the Fairmont Cardinals, the Vikings and the Twins. He bowled in the Monday night bowling league at Bowlmor Lanes and was their secretary for more than 25 years. John was an early member of the Rose Lake Golf Club. He served on the Fairmont Park Board for several years. He was a member of St. John Vianney Church in Fairmont. Above all, John was devoted to family and friends. He could be counted on for lending a helping hand, weekly visits to his parents and attending his children’s, grandchildren’s, and others’ sports and school events. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, LaVaun; children, Angela (Bruce) Hauger of Duluth, Greg (Leah Goff) of Minnetonka and Laura (Gerald) Gallati of St. Anthony Village; grandchildren, Hannah Gallati, Lily and Jake Hauger, Callia Hauger Cadotte, Erika Hauger Bakke, and Lindsay and Mike Goff; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Ammann; brothers, Martin (Beulah) Rosenberg and Marvin (Marsha) Rosenberg; brother-in-law, Roger (Pat) Green and sister-in-law, Arlis Green; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; sister, Bertina Laue; brothers-in-law, Ralph Ammann and Bill Green; and nephew, Jason Green. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Tradition in Brooklyn Park and Interim HealthCare Home Health and Hospice Services for their good care of John. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate to your favorite cause.
