FAIRMONT -- A celebration of life for Jean L. Schultz, 95, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Visitation will be prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at St. John's United Church of Christ.
Jean passed away Monday evening, March 27, 2023, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Memorials are preferred to St. John's UCC or the donor's choice. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jean LaVonne (Ritter) Schultz was born April 6, 1927, to Frank and Anna (Loring) Ritter in Winnebago, Minn. She attended school in Winnebago, Blue Earth, Minn., Brea, Calif., Whittier, Calif., Seattle, Wash., and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1945. During
high school in California, Jean riveted B-17's.
On May 11, 1946, Jean was united in marriage to Donald Schultz at St. John's UCC
parsonage in Fairmont. They made their home in Fairmont and were blessed with three children, Michael, Peggy and Connie. Jean and Don operated Grey Goose in Fairmont from 1970 to 1985 and Jean also worked at Cavers Realty in Fairmont from 1976 until she retired in 1996. After Jean retired, she began volunteering at many different places including the Opera House, Hospital, Glows Parade, P. Buckley Moss and St. John's UCC where she served home communions with Pastor Abel in and out of town and was a minister of visitations. Jean eventually moved into Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center where she loved being able to greet the parents and children coming in to the daycare every day with a big smile and hug and in the evening meeting them one more time to give them a sucker as they went home. Jean loved quilting, dancing, listening to Big Band era music and could often be found out around town going for walks. Her greatest enjoyment in life was being with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Michael (Carol) Schultz; two daughters, Peggy (Tim) Kunkel and Connie Schultz; one grandson, Mitch Schultz; four granddaughters, Sara (Josh) Mancell, Erin (Brent) Herman, Jessica Kunkel and Meghan (Jason) Kirkpatrick; seven great-grandchildren, Eli and Evan Mancell, Connor, Keira and Claire Herman, and Mattie Jo and Hunter Kirkpatrick; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; son-in-law, Cal Gould, III; grandson, Matt Schultz; twin sisters, Beatrice Chilson and Bernice Sprague; sister, Betty Abrams; and two brothers, Paul (Ginny) Ritter and Bob (Priscilla) Ritter. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
