Odetta passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Ingleside Assisted Living in Fairmont, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Odetta M.I. (Ostwald) Gallagher was born Nov. 10, 1929, the daughter of Otto and Hazel (VanDam) Ostwald on a farm near Okabena, Minn., in Jackson County, Minn. She attended school in Okabena and graduated from Okabena High School with the class of 1947. In 1948, Odetta was united in marriage to Eston Rixmann. Together the couple farmed in Sioux Valley, Minn. (Rost Township, rural Jackson County) until 1965, when they purchased the Bell Motel in Fairmont, Minn. In 1977, Eston passed away in a drowning accident on Amber Lake. Odetta sold the motel in 1979 and married Robert Gallagher in May 1979. Odetta enjoyed painting ceramics, bowling, playing cards and golfing. She was a member of Interlaken Golf Club in Fairmont. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Craig (Dawn) Rixmann of Two Harbors, Minn.; granddaughter, Sherri (Jon) Hamre of Sacred Heart, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Brekke, McKenzie (Joe) Okerstrom, Kallie (Allen) Chrisman, Payten Soma, Megan Hamre and Grace Hamre; great-great-grandchildren, Ava, Bralynn, Maverick, Michael, Gage, Branson, Hayven, Madison and Harley; two stepsons, Tom (Susan) Gallagher of Fairmont, Minn. and Kelly (Sally) Gallagher of Oronoco, Minn.; four step-grandchildren, Gretchen (Ed) Gallagher Weinstein, Sarah (Ty) Totzke, Ryan (Meghan) Gallagher and Megan Gallagher; two step-great-granddaughters, Libby and Maggie Totzke; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Odetta is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Hazel Ostwald; first husband, Eston Rixmann; second husband, Robert Gallagher; daughter, Renae; infant son, Todd; son, Bruce; four brothers, Meryl (Grace) Ostwald, Darrell (Barbara) Ostwald, Winfield (Janice) Ostwald and Jerome (Pat) Ostwald; two sisters, Elizabeth Ostwald and Alberta Ostwald. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
