Donald L. Erickson

ST. JAMES — A celebration of life service for Donald L. Erickson, 94, of St. Paul, Minn., formerly of Trimont, Minn., will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont, Minn. Military honors by the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post 373 of Trimont will be at the church. Burial will follow in First Lutheran Cemetery, rural Trimont, Minn.

Don was called to his eternal rest Friday morning, March 17, 2023, at Sholom Home East in St. Paul, Minn. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. Donald Louis Erickson was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Austin, Minn., to Rudolph and Mildred (Rask) Erickson. He attended elementary school in Paynesville, Minn. and high school in Alexandria, Minn. He graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. Don served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II and also was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He was called back to active duty with the U.S. Navy during the Granada Conflict. On June 10, 1951, Don was united in marriage to Ivadelle M. Weber of Trimont, Minn. in the chapel at Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, Wash. Don’s principal employment was with the Internal Revenue Service in various locations in the Midwest including Des Moines, Chicago, St. Louis, Nashville, Omaha, and Buffalo, N.Y., where he retired as Chief of the Administration Division. He was also a teacher, civil service commission investigator, Human Rights Enforcement officer, Dairy Queen Operator, and butter maker. Don and Ivy spent their retirement years in Trimont, Minn., which Don considered to be the center of his universe. In September 2008 they moved to St. Paul to be closer to their daughters and for medical services. In 1990, Don and Ivy founded the Trimont Area Youth Foundation which awards two scholarship grants each year to students in the Trimont area.

He is survived by his wife, Ivadelle Erickson of St. Paul, Minn.; daughters, Kathryn Erickson of Plymouth, Minn. and Julianne Erickson of Grand Rapids, Minn.; sisters, Julianne Gee of Jackson, Minn., Beth Erickson of Sherburn, Minn.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Keith Weber of Mankato, Minn., Dennis (Ruth) Weber of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Ruth Weber of Apple Valley, Minn., Carolyn “Susie” Koenck of Indianola, Iowa, Paul (Virginia) Weber of Morris, Ill. and Joel Weber of Cape Coral, Fla.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Mildred Erickson; twin sister, Dorothy James Johnson; son, Ross James Erickson; sisters, Aline Melson, Marjorie Geisler, Edna Erickson; brother, Robert Erickson; nephew, Randall James; and other relatives.
