Winnefred M. Luhmann

FAIRMONT -- Services for Winnefred "Winnie" M. Luhmann, age 98, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at East Chain Lutheran Church, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 20, at Lakeview

Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Tuesdayat the church.

Winnefred passed away Monday morning, March 13, 2023, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Winnefred Marie (Oltman) Luhmann was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Rutland Township, Martin County, Minn., the daughter of Adolph and Lillian (Abel) Oltman. Winnie was baptized at Granada Congregational United Church of Christ and was later confirmed in 1944, at St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop. She attended Granada public schools and graduated from Granada High School in 1942. On Sept. 25, 1943, Winnie was united in marriage to Clarence Luhmann in Pecos, Texas. The couple resided near several Air Force bases while Clarencewas in the service. They later returned to Minnesota to begin farming near Northrop. In 1957, Winnie and Clarence bought a farm in East Chain Township and continued to live there for many years. Winnie helped Clarence on the farm as well as raising their three daughters, Janice, Claudia, and Diana. Winnie and Clarence shared over 68 years together before Clarence passed away on Oct. 9, 2012. Winnie was a member of the Pleasant Prairie Birthday Club, East Chain Lutheran Women, VFW Auxiliary, Fairmont Hospital Auxiliary, the Martin County Extension, Heritage Acres, as well as being a 4-H leader.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Janice (Norwood) Stromberg, Claudia Kastning; son-in-law, Victor Abelson; granddaughters, Debra Cole, Patricia Mielke and Victoria (Paul) Lake; grandsons, Robert (Lisa) Stromberg, Bryan (Lori) Kastning, Kevin Kastning, Paul Kastning (Samantha Steele)and Randall (Lori) Abelson; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren; brother, James (Karen) Oltman; sister-in-law, Arleen (Virgil) Heidenreich; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives

and friends. Along with her parents, Adolph and Lillian Oltman, Winnefred was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Luhmann; daughter, Diana Abelson; son-in-law, Dennis Kastning; grandson-in-law, Chris Mielke; granddaughter, Abelson in infancy;

great-granddaughter, Morgan Mielke; brother, Eugene Oltman; sister, Margie (Delbert) Anders; brothers-in-law, Alvin (Fern) Luhmann and Carl (Phyllis) Luhmann; and sister-in-law, Bernice (Irvin) Widman.
