Marjorie A. Carlson

TRIMONT — A service of remembrance for Marjorie A. Carlson, 74, of Trimont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin, Minn.

Marjorie Aleta Seivert was born March 31, 1948, to Richard and Elda (Juvrud) Seivert in Cando, N.D. Marjorie was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up in Cando, N.D., and was a 1966 graduate of Cando High School. Marjorie attended college in Grand Forks and graduated with a music degree. In 1971, she became a music teacher at Trimont High School in Trimont, Minn. In 1974, she moved to Orange City, Iowa, and was the music teacher there. In 1977, she moved back to the Trimont area and was employed at a nursing home in St. James. On Nov. 27, 1977, she was united in marriage to Barry Carlson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont, Minn. In 1979, she was employed as the music teacher at the junior high school in Trimont and later Martin County West until her retirement due to health issues. Marjorie was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and was its choir director for many years. She was a column writer for Martin County Star newspaper where she collected the Trimont news for many years. Marjorie played in the Trimont Centennial Band until ill health forced her to retire. She also was the director of Trimont Summer Theater for five years. She is survived by her husband, Barry Carlson of Trimont, Minn.; son, Alex (Maira) Carlson of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren, Hunter, Avery, Amairany; brother, Tennis (Irene) Seivert of Fargo, N.D.; sisters-in-law, Sue Seivert of Canton, Ohio, Gloria Carlson of Minneapolis, Minn. and Rochelle (Jim) Tusa of Jackson, Minn.; brother-in-law, Bradley (Karin) Carlson of rural Trimont, Minn.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Elda Seivert; sister, Barbara (Gerald) Peterson; brother, Richard Seivert II; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Deloris Carlson; brother-in-law, Brian Carlson; and other relatives.
