FAIRMONT -- Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent J. Landsteiner, age 94, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2023, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Military honors will be provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222 following the service. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Lakeview Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to St. John Vianney Endowment Fund or Options Pregnancy Center in Fairmont.
Vincent passed away Saturday morning, March 11, 2023, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Vincent John Landsteiner was born April 7, 1928, to Conrad and Estelle (Gute) Landsteiner in Armstrong, Iowa. He received his education by attending Tenhassen Township School in Martin County and later went on to receive his GED in Fairmont. Vincent served in the U.S. Army until being honorably discharged on Jan. 12, 1951. On Oct. 20, 1951, Vincent was united in marriage to Anna Marie Astrum at St. James Catholic Church. Vincent had a passion for farming and also worked as a heavy duty mechanic and at Railway Motors in Fairmont until retiring in 1993. Vincent was a lifelong, faithful member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont and was completely involved with the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 36. Vincent loved the outdoors and collected model tractors. The two most important things in Vincent's life were his church and family. He loved spending time with his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 71 years, Anna Landsteiner; children, Glen (Peggy) Landsteiner, Doug (Collette) Landsteiner, Steven (Marie) Landsteiner, Joan Beebe, Susan (Jeff) Rath, Rosemary Baum, Barbara (Dan) Grundman and Pamela (Jan) deLooze; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Frank Landsteiner, Anna Mae Sellner and David (Bonnie) Landsteiner; sisters-in-law, Bev Astrum, Carol Landsteiner and Gladys Vredenburg; brother-in-law, Dale Astrum; nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Estelle Landsteiner; siblings, Bernice (Don) Welte, Helen (Gil) Gilbertson, Lorraine (Tony) Templeton and Kenneth Landsteiner; parents-in-law; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and son-in-law, Roger Beebe.
