FAIRMONT -- Dennis J. Poppe, 88, of Fairmont, Minn., passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023, at his home in Fairmont. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dennis John Poppe was born Oct. 11, 1934, to William (Bill) and Regina (Gelhaus) Poppe in Ledyard, Iowa. He was a graduate of Ledyard High School and Fort Dodge Business College. Upon moving to Fairmont, he worked for Felber and Cavers Plumbing & Heating, Aerospace, and Teledyne Aerospace. On Dec. 11, 1971, Dennis was united in marriage to Paula Deist at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Dennis enjoyed fishing, golfing, and was ever hopeful watching the Vikings play football. A quiet man, but with a laugh that could fill a room. He enjoyed his memberships in the Fairmont Eagles Club and Rose Lake Golf Club. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Paula Poppe; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Dalton or Dick) Poppe, Laura (Larry) Scheff, Brian (Regina) Deist, and Ellen (Tom) Millington; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Laura and Larry Scheff, Richard and Donna Poppe, Lori and John Jorgensen, the wonderful Hospice team, and the neighbors and friends that made caring for him at home possible.
