Lola was born March 3, 1940, in Grand Forks, N.D., to Rueben and Cindy Tangen. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1958. Lola attended the University of North Dakota and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. While attending UND, she met Ray Herman and they were united in marriage on Jan. 25, 1961. The two of them were married for 56 years until his death in 2017. Lola worked in the Grand Forks County, Cass County, and Freeborn County court systems. She worked at Land Services, Unlimited until her retirement in 1998. Lola was an avid bridge player, gardener, painter, seamstress, and volleyball player. She attended all of her husband’s and children’s sporting events. One of Lola’s favorite roles in life was being a grandma and great-grandma. Lola is survived by her children, Erin Herman, Chrisan (Joe) Theobald, and Jim (SuAnne) Herman; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dustin) Van Erem, Mary Thompson, Rachel (Matt) Gray, Zach Theobald, Abbie Herman, and Christian Herman; great-grandchildren, Ava, Ian, and Zoe Van Erem; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; daughter, Jessica Lynn; and sister, Carole.
