EAST CHAIN -- A funeral service for Harvey L. Madsen, age 86, of East Chain, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with interment in East Chain Evangelical Free Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Harvey passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at his home in East Chain. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Harvey Lee Madsen was born July 1, 1936, to Andrew and Esther (Magnuson) Madsen. He attended East Chain Consolidated School, graduating in 1955. Harvey farm alongside his father until his death in 1974. In 1960, he married Nancy Hallstrom on April 9. Harvey and Nancy moved onto the farm after his parent's house was built in 1960. He farmed until 1984 and then went to work in town at Armour Foods and went through various company names and eventually Fairmont Foods. He retired in 2002. He also helped out various farmers during planting and harvest times during the years.
Harvey had a passion for Oliver tractors. He and a friend restored a couple of Oliver tractors. He also had a passion for Ford vehicles and really only drove Ford vehicles. Harvey also did a little woodworking in his shop in the basement. He also set up a scrapbooking room for Nancy. He would sit downstairs and look through pictures. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Chris Pasion; brother, Arnold and Donna Madsen; sister, Carol and Kermit Heide; sister-in-law, Doreen Madsen; special nephew, Ken Madsen who helped when needed; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Madsen; daughter, Lisa Madsen; his parents, Andrew and Esther Madsen; brother, Maynard Madsen; sister, Arlene and Lavern Schultz; parents-in-law, Albert and Esther Hallstrom; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elaine and Clemens Rudolph, John and Jean Hallstrom, Donna Conrad and husband's Raymond Mikkelsen and Alvin Conrad, JoAnne and Lester Hockert; and nephew, Duane Madsen. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
