FAIRMONT -- A celebration of life for John E. "Jack" Houfer, 86, of
Fairmont, Minn., will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with military honors provided by Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Visitation will take place prior
to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Lakeview Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.
Jack passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements. John "Jack" Edward Houfer was born Oct. 29, 1936, to John and Ida (Wolle) Houfer in St. Cloud, Minn. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1955. In September of 1955, Jack enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served as Battalion Executive Officer and retired as a Major when he was honorably discharged in May of 1982. On Oct. 5, 1958, Jack was united in marriage to Karen Nord in Fairmont. This union was blessed with three daughters, Janell, Susan and Kristen. Jack worked for 38 years as a safety and health supervisor at 3M in Fairmont. He was a member of the Exchange Club, Fairmont Safety Council and Interlaken Golf Club. Jack loved basketball, golfing and playing fantasy football. He was on the 1955 State Boys Basketball Team for Fairmont. Jack coached girls
basketball for 35 years at Fairmont and Granada Huntley East Chain Schools. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially attending their sporting events and other extracurricular activities.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Janell Houfer, Susan (Brian)
Petrowiak and Kristen (Dan) Gratz; grandchildren, Kaleigh Houfer, Jessica Petrowiak, Sara (Jeff) Rothmeier, Megan Petrowiak, Samuel, Lucas, Noah and Liliana Gratz; great-grandchildren, Jaxyn, Aria and Brynlee; special friend, Judy Krahmer; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Houfer; parents, John and Ida Houfer; parents-in-law, Harold and Gwen Nord; sister, June (Bill) Plenge; and niece, Ida Plenge. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
