Duane was born July 22, 1947, in Fairmont, Minn., to Edwin Rudolph Mikosch and Darlene Louisa (Weiss) Mikosch. He was raised on a farm located southeast of Sherburn. Duane was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, and graduated from Welcome High School with the class of 1965. He completed his Associate in Arts Degree at Estherville Junior College in 1967. On Aug. 3, 1973, Duane married Cindy (Thielhorn) St. John at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont. Together they lived in Trimont raising their three children. Duane took pride in working hard to provide for his family. He was employed at Fairmont Railway Motors for many years, and enjoyed serving as a union steward during his time there. He also continued to help on the farm for many years until his parents retired and moved to Sherburn. Duane was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as a youth group counselor and member of the church council. He was active with his three children and their participation in 4-H, attending the Martin County and Minnesota State Fairs every year. In 2006, Duane and Cindy moved to Lake Worth Beach, Florida where Duane enjoyed working as a security guard at a senior living community until officially retiring in 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Mikosch of Lake Worth Beach, Fla.; son, Jeff Mikosch of Willmar, Minn., and his children, Jacob, Josie (Jason) and Joseph; son, Jay Mikosch (Shawn) of Loxahatchee, Fla.; daughter, Megan (Patrick) Selby of Peaks Island, Maine; sister, Pam Hybbert of Lakewood, Calif., and her daughter Heather; uncle, Lyle (Ardis) Weiss of Fairmont, Minn.; aunt, Clarine (Loren) Weiss-Glidden of Sherburn, Minn.; cousins, other relatives and friends. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Darlene Mikosch; aunt Helen Crawford; uncle, Glenn Weiss; and other relatives.
