FAIRMONT — A memorial service for Kenneth L. Rachuy, age 71, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont, with military honors provided by Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and

Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Inurnment will be in Worthington Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Ken passed away Monday morning, Jan. 30, 2023, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kenneth Lloyd Rachuy was born March 30, 1951, in Worthington, Minn., the son of William and Jean (O’Neil) Rachuy. Ken attended Worthington public school and graduated from Worthington High School. He furthered his education at Jackson VoTech where he earned a degree in accounting. On Jan. 15, 1970, Ken enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a medical assistant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal before earning his honorable discharge on Sept. 12, 1971. On Oct. 20, 1973, Ken was united in marriage to Joy Nienkerk. This union was blessed with two children, Adam and April. The couple shared over forty-nine years together. Ken began working for the City of Fairmont in 1980 where he worked in various departments including the water treatment plant and power plant until his retirement in 2013. He also served as a member of the Fairmont Fire Department from 1993 to 2006. Ken was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont until his health prevented it. During his free time, Ken enjoyed golfing and riding his motorcycle. Most important to Ken was his family and the time he was able to spend with them. Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joy Rachuy; son, Adam (Danielle) of Livonia, Mich.; daughter, April of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Caleb, Preston, Colton and Paxton; brothers, Garry, Ron (Jean), Brad (Wendy), and Bill (Peggy); sisters, Cheryl (Cliff), Linda (Roger), and Sheila; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, William and Jean Rachuy, Ken was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Merle and Lois Nienkerk; sister-in-law, Janet; and brother-in-law, Craig.
