TRUMAN — Eulalie Ann (Ricard) Grunig, age 91, of Truman, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman, with the Rev. Timothy A. Chase officiating, with visitation from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Ridge Lawn Cemetery, rural Truman.

She was born Jan. 23, 1931, in Truman, Minn., to Hiram and Laura (Lund) Ricard. She attended District 19 Country School through 6th grade and then attended Truman High School. Eulalie Ann married Bill Grunig on Jan. 19, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Northwood, Iowa. The two were married for 70 years spending most of their marriage and raising their family on the same farm south of Truman. Eulalie Ann worked a short time at a canning factory before switching to the local telephone company. She started as a telephone switchboard operator at the central office in Truman. At that time, no one could make direct calls, they had to be made with the assistance of an operator. She continued as an operator helping in offices all over Martin County before moving into sales and customer service where she was a top salesperson. She retired early due to a medical condition in 1991. The entire time she was heavily involved in farming alongside Bill. Eulalie Ann was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, strong will, lead foot, strong work ethic, and outspoken nature. She loved playing cards, traveling, polka-dancing, fishing, gardening, canning, baking, golfing, reading and gambling. She also loved her church family at St. Paul’s Lutheran where she spent time as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the Ladies Aid and Dorcas Circle. Above all she loved her family.

Left to cherish her memory are sons, Mickey (Kathy) Grunig, and Terry (Betty) Grunig; grandchildren, Tara (Chad) Perre, Jared (Tina) Grunig, Brent Grunig, and Daniel (Brittany) Grunig; great-grandchildren, Abbey Perre, Jacob Perre, Amelia Grunig, Grace Grunig, Kellen Grunig, Keegan Grunig, Korbin Grunig and Kamryn Grunig; sisters, Delores Holz, and Roxy Brummond; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Audrey Becker, Gini Brummond and Lisa Krenz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; grandparents; parents; brother, Dean (Marie) Ricard; sister, Twila (Emmett) Anderson; brothers-in-law, Ernie Brummond, Garland (Merlys) Grunig; sisters-in-law, LaDonna (Ronald) Jenkins, Lois (Milford) Hoppe; and parents-in-law, Jacob and Ethel (Guether) Grunig. The family is especially thankful to Pastor Chase and the nurses, doctors, chaplain and other staff at Fairmont Hospital who went above and beyond with kindness and care during Eulalie Ann’s last days. www.zahariafamilyfuneral.com
