Wilhelmine Janssen

GRANADA -- Wilhelmine Janssen, age 97, of Granada, Minn., passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at her home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Wilhelmine Charlotte (Kruse) Janssen was born March 27, 1925, to Robert and Wilhelmine ”Minnie” (Mayland) Kruse on a farmstead near Buffalo Center, Iowa. She received her education from the Center German Township country school near Titonka, Iowa. On June 11,

1947, Wilhelmine was united in marriage to Ernest A. Janssen at Ramsey Reformed Church near Titonka, Iowa. They farmed in the Buffalo Center area before moving to their farm near Granada in 1961. Wilhelmine kept busy as a housewife raising her children. She taught us all the basic skills of how to clean house, make beds, cook, wash, fold, and iron clothes, etc. We reluctantly did these chores at the time. Not until after we were out of the house, starting our own families did we begin to fully appreciate that a clean and organized home helps create a little peace, and harmony in the chaotic world around us. The role of a full-time Mom is exhausting and somehow she did an amazing and wonderful job. When she asked us to do our chores, she meant it. She was firm, but firm with love. We again learned a lesson in boundaries, and following rules is an important life lesson as an adult, a lesson to pass on.

Wilhelmine enjoyed listening to music, reading, baking,

watching old classic TV shows, having coffee with friends and neighbors, and most of all loved her family and was always interested in what they were doing. She had a sense of humor and a good laugh. As young kids we would occasionally overhear her conversations with friends and family. We would hear the laughter, finding humor in situations that may not have seemed funny at the time, but laughed about them later. We learned that life was not always to be taken too seriously. Wilhelmine was baptized and confirmed in the Ramsey Reformed Church near Titonka, Iowa, and was a member of the Congregational Church of Granada. Her deep faith stayed with her throughout her life. She, also, belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Granada, the Square Dance Club and Mayflower Circle. She leaves all of us behind with fond memories. She was a strong woman, loving wife, and mother who cared more about others than herself. She will be missed, but her love and life lessons will live on with each of us forever.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Allen (Brenda) Janssen of Pensacola, Fla., and Bruce Janssen of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon (Darrell ”Dean”) Bloome of Lakefield, Minn., and Darlene (Dennis)

Hilpipre of Blue Earth, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arlene Kruse, Ed (Lori) Janssen, Art Janssen, Marcy James, and Glen (Arlys) Wittmus; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Arnold Janssen; grandson, Eric Janssen; two brothers, Willie Kruse and Raymond Kruse; sister, Katherine (Kruse) Meinders; sister-in-law, Caroline Kruse; and brother-in-law, Dick Meinders.
