Charles Grandstrand

FAIRMONT — Private family services for Charles P. Grandstrand will

be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Fairmont, with military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. A public visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.

Charles passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 1, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Charles Peter Grandstrand was born May 22, 1945, in Texas, the son of Charles and Irene (Peterson) Grandstrand. Charles attended Edina public schools and graduated from Edina High School. On May 3, 1965, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a

Boatswain’s Mate aboard the USS Rainier. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal before earning his honorable discharge on May 28, 1968. On Sept. 3, 1988, Charles was united in marriage to Cheryl

Pierce in Fairmont, Minn. The couple resided in Fairmont where Charles worked as a machine operator at Tyco Plastics. After retiring, he went on to be a door greeter at the Fairmont Walmart. Charles and Cheryl shared over 34 years together. Charles was a member of the Blue Earth, MN American Legion Post 89 as well as the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. He was also a life-member of Pheasants Forever. Charles enjoyed being outdoors especially while hunting and fishing. He loved to watch NASCAR and was a huge fan of the Minnesota Vikings.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Cheryl Grandstrand; fur baby, Diamond; daughter from a previous marriage, Lisa Christianson; sister, Karen Grandstrand Gervia; mother-in-law, Lucille Pierce; brothers-in-law, Randy (Cherie) Pierce, and Ricky Pierce; sister-in-law, Cathy (Craig) Nelson; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Charles and Irene Grandstrand, Charles was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ralph Pierce; aunts and uncles; and two fur babies, Tundra and Sierra. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
