Marlin Ronald Slater

FAIRMONT — A public graveside service for Marlin Ronald Slater, 85, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held at a later time during the spring. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont, Minn.

Ronald was called to his eternal rest Sunday afternoon, Dec. 11, 2022, at Goldfinch Assisted Living Memory Care in Fairmont. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family online at www.kramerfuneralhome.com

Marlin Ronald Slater was born Jan. 1, 1937, to Marlin and Lydia (Wiese) Slater in Decatur, Ill. He moved with his family to Ledyard, Iowa, and was baptized in June of 1940 at the Methodist Church. Ron then moved to East Chain, Minn., and he was confirmed in 1951 at the Methodist Church. He attended and later graduated from East Chain High School. He served in the Military Reserves. On April 8, 1961, he was united in marriage to Joyce Elaine Kampert at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, Minn. After their marriage they lived in East Chain until moving to Fairmont in 1964. Ron was an auto mechanic for Richard’s Auto Repair in Fairmont until his retirement in 2004. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his cat, working with wood, gardening and being outside walking or riding his bike. He is survived by his three daughters, Debra (John) Kurak of Iron River, Wis., Rhonda (Cameron) Ollila of Fridley, Minn., Jill Redenius and special friend, Tim, of Fairmont, Minn.; three grandchildren, Ashlyn, Nicholas and Jennifer; two brothers, Dennis (Audrey) Slater of Fairmont, Minn., and Larry (Scarlett) Slater of Sabin, Minn.; sister-in-law, Betty (Kenneth) Ammann of rural Ormsby, Minn.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Marlin and Lydia Slater; wife, Joyce Elaine Slater; sister-in-law, Sherrill Slater; mother and father-in-law, Melbourne “Tony” and Ruth Kampert; and other relatives. Memorials are preferred to the Martin County Humane Society.
