Mildred Johnson

SWEA CITY -- Mildred Eunice Johnson passed away Saturday, Dec.10, 2022, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa, at the age of 96 years. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City, Iowa, with Sara Heutinck as Officiant. Interment will be at Harrison Township Cemetery, rural Swea City, Iowa.

Mildred was born July 8, 1926, daughter of Axel and Augusta (Glaubitz) Paulsen on a farm in Swea Township, Kossuth County, Iowa. Mildred was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City, and has remained an active life member. In 1936, Mildred moved with her family to their family farm near Swea City. She was enrolled in the Swea City Consolidated School where she was active in music, plays, and cheerleading. Mildred graduated from Swea City High School in 1944. On March 9, 1947, she was united in marriage to Sigfred ”Morris” Johnson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City, this was after he came home from 3 years of overseas duty during WWII. In November of 1949, their only child, Karma, was born. As a young bride Mildred was active in church and community affairs. She was a Sunday and Bible school teacher for 25 years, president of LCW, Young Women's Ministry, PTA, lifetime member and president of the VFW Auxiliary. Girl Scouts held a special place in Mildred’s heart, and she enjoyed being a Brownie and Scout Leader. While Mildred and Morris lived in Texas during the winter months, she was active at church and attended mission retreat in Mexico. She also volunteered at the hospital and taught Hispanic students in the HOST program. Mildred's true desire was to be a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She liked to read, sew, make crafts, crochet, and cook. She liked to prepare special meals for family and friends especially kringla and

Easter cakes. One of her greatest joys was when she and Morris worked together to make the funeral banner to be used by all church members in their church. Morris and Mildred both enjoyed traveling and had visited all continental states as well as Canada, Mexico, Alaska, and Hawaii, as well as several times to Europe. But home in Swea with family and friends was always best. They enjoyed 70 1/2 years together as best friends watching over each other after sharing their love and devotion to God and family. Now Mildred has been patiently waiting since Sept. 9, 2017, to hear Morris call to her "Welcome Home, Mom." Mildred is survived by her daughter, Karma (Randall) Bierle of Algona; grandson, Brendon (Brooke) Bierle of Algona; granddaughter-in-law, Kylee Mahmens of Clinton; great-

grandchildren, Bristol, Piper, Braxton, Blayten, and Brynlee Bierle, and Baylyn Johnson; nieces and nephews, Robert, Michael, and Jeff Chesher and families, James, Jack, Richard, Rodney, Joanne, Judy, and Jane Johnson and families; and family friend, Linda Thoen.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Morris; parents; grandson, Ryan Bierle; brother, Albert Paulsen who was killed in action in France during WWII; sister, Gladys (Robert) Chesher; many other family and friends. Online condolences may be left for the
