RIPON, Wis. -- Gary Charles Parno, age 84, of Ripon, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wis.
A private family celebration of life will be held at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Gary and Janet will be inurned together at a later date at Maple Hill Cemetery, Lakota, Iowa.
Gary was born Sept. 19, 1938, in St. Peter, Minn., son of Grace Durland Long. He graduated from Blue Earth High School. He married Janet Dontje on March 7, 1958, in Pine City, Minn. Gary honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1961. He had a long career as an agricultural maintenance supervisor for the Green Giant Company. Gary had many interests including: playing cards, gardening, woodworking and reading. He was an avid local sports fan and attended many games/matches throughout his life. Gary also enjoyed making an appearance at the Princeton Flee Market almost every week. But his greatest joy was his children and grandchildren; he loved telling stories about them. Gary is survived by his four children, Cary (Cathy) Parno, Brad (Ann) Parno, Lisa Coffman, and Patrick (Connie) Parno; grandchildren, Matthew, Amy, Christopher, Alana, Salvatore, Nicholas, Marissa, Emily, and Alexis; five great-grandchildren; a brother, John Long; a sister, Cynthia Long; sisters-in-law, Alice Struss, Tanny Long and Karen Long; brother-in-law, Harvey (Barb) Dontje; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years; his mother; brothers, Darwin and Jerry Long; sisters, Jean Grover and Barbara Rud; brothers-in-law, Raymond Grover, John Rudd, David Schneider and Earl Struss; and sisters-in-law, Jean Long and Linda Schneider.
