FAIRMONT -- A funeral service for Tom Westcott, 77, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Following the service, interment with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222, will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
Tom passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Thomas Emmett Westcott Jr. was born Sept. 30, 1945, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Thomas E. Sr. and Ada (Pullman) Westcott. Tom was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Fairmont and went on to be confirmed into the Missouri Synod Lutheran faith while in the Army at Ft. Benning, Ga. He received his education attending school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1963. Following his graduation, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country proudly during Vietnam War and was stationed in Korea. In 1966, Tom received his honorable discharge having earned the rank of E-5 and returned home to Fairmont. On Oct. 15, 1965, Tom was united in marriage to Mary Miedtke at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Together, the couple made their home in Fairmont and were blessed with two children, Julie and Mark. Tom took great pride in a hard day's work and spent most of his working career working as a master plumber. He owned and operated Fairmont Plumbing and Heating for 35 years before he retired. His faith was extremely important to him and he was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont where he served on the Trustee and Stewardship Boards, was church treasurer, and was head usher for many years. Tom also served as a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Parochial School Board. Tom's military service and being a veteran was a source of great pride for him and he loved his country. He was a life member of the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and a life member of the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. A project that Tom took great honor in was when he was asked to be project manager for the restoration and installation of the Cobra attack helicopter at the Martin County Veterans Memorial. Tom loved his family and cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to music and attending car shows. Tom was dedicated and always gave 100 percent to whatever he was working on or participating in. He cherished his friendships and enjoyed visiting with others. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Mary Westcott of Fairmont, Minn.; daughter, Julie (Trent) Liljenquist of Fairmont; son, Mark (Carrie) Westcott of Fairmont; grandchildren, Jacob (Lauren) Liljenquist, Josh Liljenquist and special friend, Ingrid Rischmiller, Alyssa (Ben) Timmerman, and Andrea Westcott and special friend, Carson Toomer; two special foreign exchange student grandsons, Oscar Svenfelt and Anders Landenget; siblings, Gladys Sinsel and Velma Roalson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob Anderson, Gary Kerg, Roger (Charlene) Miedtke, and Karen (Arno) Norman; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sr. and Ada Westcott; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Viola (Lenz) Miedtke; siblings, Doris Briggs, Lois Anderson, Violet Censky, Mary Kerg, Evelyn Kilmer, Orville Westcott and Lester Westcott.
