FAIRMONT -- Services for Roger L. Peterson, 86, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will follow the service in Lakeside Cemetery with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9-10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.
Roger passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at Ingleside Assisted Living in Fairmont, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Roger L. Peterson was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Welcome, Minn., the son of Elmo and Lucille (Walley) Peterson. He received his education attending Welcome Public Schools. Roger worked for many years in the grocery business. He worked at Gunther's in Fairmont for over 28 years and had worked his way to assistant manager until his retirement. On Aug. 15, 1967, Roger was united in marriage to Janet Kay Hosenfeld and made their home in Fairmont. Roger loved the outdoors and especially looked forward to days spent on the lake trying his luck at fishing. In his older years, Roger cherished drives with family members and friends around the lake and stopping for a treat at Dairy Freeze. His passion for nature was evident in the many birdhouses he built throughout the years and was known for his trademark license plate roofs on them. Roger had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to his garden and found excitement in putting on his own rummage sales. Following his move to Ingleside, Roger enjoyed the many activities held there and especially looked forward to playing bingo or cards games. He enjoyed watching wrestling and western movies and shared this time watching them with family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Terry Peterson of Sherburn, Minn., Lisa Knake and special friend, Tim Brodman, of Fairmont, Minn., Bobbie Peterson and special friend, Barry Krueger, of Fairmont, and Tara Peterson and fiancé, Josh Thornburg, of Zumbrota, Minn.; grandchildren, Josh, Brandon, Katelynn, Tristan Roger, Theadocia, Tarek, and Tamryn; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Madilynn, Isabella, and Lily; brother, Warren (Cathy) Peterson of Excelsior, Minn.; and Evelyn (Jim) Keithahn of Sherburn, Minn.; special companion, Vanessa Olson of Fairmont; as well as many other extended family and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Lucille Peterson; wife, Janet Kay Peterson; and son, Shawn Peterson.
