WINNEBAGO -- Dorothy Hoppe, aged 99 years, 5 months, and 14 days, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, with her loving family surrounding her. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. tonight, Oct. 6, and one hour prior to the service Friday. Burial will be at Amsterdam Cemetery, Kanawha, Iowa, following the luncheon after the funeral. Online condolences can be left and a live stream of the service can be viewed at www.spencerowen.com.
Dorothy Estelle (Riekens) Hoppe was born April 19, 1923, to George and Anna (Albright) Riekens in Boone Township, Wright County, Iowa. She graduated from Kanawha High School in 1941 and was united in marriage to Arthur Hoppe of LuVerne, Iowa on Feb. 24, 1942, in Fairmont, Minn. They farmed in the Delavan area for several years before moving to Winnebago in 1948. In addition to driving truck for their family business, Dorothy worked for Stokley's and United Foods in Winnebago and Fairmont until her retirement in 1986. She enjoyed watching birds, gardening and tending to her many flowers as well as dancing to old-time music but most of all she enjoyed her many generations of grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her son, Ron (Becky) Hoppe of Delavan, Minn.; three daughters, Patricia Ludwig of West Bend, Iowa, Donna Ringler and Phyllis Hoppe of Winnebago; daughter-in-law, Diana Hoppe of Trenton, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; infant son, Kenneth; son, Larry Hoppe of Trenton, Mo.; grandson, James Hoppe; granddaughter, Kimberly Cain; two brothers; and two sisters.
