CEYLON -- Services for Lonny G. Schmidtke, 68, of Ceylon, Minn., will be held at a later date.
Lonny passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Home in Jackson, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lonny George Schmidtke was born Sept. 17, 1954, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of John and Charlotte (Plumhoff) Schmidtke. He was raised in Ceylon and attended Ceylon Public School where he graduated high school with the class of 1973. Lonny worked as a CNC machinist for Railway Motors and Weigh-Tronix in Fairmont. On April 17, 1980, Lonny was united in marriage to Cindy Johnston at the United Methodist Church in Blue Earth, Minn. Together, the couple would make their home in Ceylon and celebrated over 42 years of marriage. Lonny loved the outdoors and especially looked forward to days spent on the lake fishing with his dad. When not fishing, Lonny could be found sitting quietly on a cool fall day in a blind or tree stand, waiting for the trophy buck to come walking by or the ducks and geese to swoop overhead. Lonny had a competitive side and, in his youth, enjoyed nights under the lights playing softball with friends. He treasured the companionship of his dogs and especially cherished spending time with his wife, Cindy.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cindy Schmidtke; parents, John and Charlotte Schmidtke; brother, Doug (Laurna) Schmidtke; mother-in-law, Betty Johnston; brother-in-law, Craig (Lora) Johnston; two sisters-in-law, Suzanne Schutrop and Judy (Virgil) Meyer; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Lonny was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jim Johnston; brother-in-law, Jerry Schutrop; nephew, Jeremy Schutrop; maternal and paternal grandparents. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
