FAIRMONT -- A funeral service for Edward R. Gersch, Jr., age 88, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Following the service, full military honors will be provided by Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. A private family burial will be at Welcome City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Ed passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 30, 2022, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Edward R. Gersch, Jr. was born March 7, 1934, in Welcome, Minn., to Edward and Katherine M. (Miller) Gersch. He graduated from Comfrey High School. On Nov. 24, 1972, Ed was united in marriage to Helen Gersch in Sioux Falls, S.D. Ed worked as a maintenance manager at 3M in Fairmont for many years until retiring in 1996. Ed was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, cooking and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Kyle Collins; grandchildren, Sydney and Reece Collins; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Katherine Gersch; wife, Helen Gersch; daughter, Susan Gersch; son, Robert Gersch; brothers and sisters, Laurence Gersch, Elmer Gersch, Irene Lutterman, Willard Gersch and Marion Ulhorn. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
