Ronald E. Lorensberg
MANKATO — Ronald Edmund Lorensberg, age 77, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at his home, following a short illness. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at Peace Lutheran Church in North Mankato, with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 a.m.
Ron was born March 27, 1945, in Webster, S.D., to parents, Arnold and Stella Lorensberg. He graduated from high school in Clear Lake, South Dakota in 1963. He received his BFA degree at the University of South Dakota in 1967, MM degree from MSU in 1978, and MBA degree from MSU in 1992. He taught high school band in Jasper, Minn. from 1967 to 1971, in Flandreau, S.D. from 1971 to 1974. He then taught band in Fairmont, Minn. from 1974 to 2006. He started Big Band Inc. in 1971 and that lasted until 1986. He also had a quartet called Bob Lorens Band from 1967 to 1969. While living in Fairmont he was on the board of Ducks Unlimited and was a member of Pheasant’s Forever. He was on the board of Chain of Lakes Juvenile Detention Center, Halfway House and Community Concert Association. He directed Fairmont City Band for 20 years, and belonged to the Lions Club where he served on several offices. Ron started in real estate in 1976 and built apartments in Blue Earth, Minn. in 1979 and Fairmont Pheasant Run apartments in 1985. Ron married Jeanne Maas Schwartz on Aug. 6, 2000, at Shepherd of the Lake in Fairmont. They lived in Fairmont until 2009, when they moved to Mankato, Minn. They are members of Peace Lutheran Church in North Mankato, Minn. He did sub teaching in Lake Crystal until the pandemic in 2020. He enjoyed going to the YMCA, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with friends and family, especially his five grandsons who called him “Papa Ron.” He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Lorensberg; three stepchildren, Darren (Miranda) Schwartz of LeSeuer, Minn., Brent (Julie) Schwartz of Denver, Colo., Katie (Matt) Bushman of Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren, Garrett Schwartz, Gavin and Liam Bushman, Cody Schwartz, Riley Schwartz; many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his father, Arnold Lorensberg; and sister, Debra (Dale) Bublitz of Clear Lake, S.D. He was preceded in death by his mother, Stella; his grandparents; aunts and uncles.
