Bonny Zoellmer

TRUMAN -- Bonny Zoellmer of Truman, formerly of Lewisville, passed away Oct. 5, 2021, in Truman. She was 86. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at Church of Christ in Truman, with Pastor Merrill Davis officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Lewisville.

Bonny Lee Zoellmer was born March 11, 1935, in Fairmont, to Leslie and Irene (Grassman) Leonard. She was one of 4 children. (Rondy, Jane, and Judy) She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Bonny attended school in Fairmont Minn., in California, and later graduated from Truman High School in 1953. Following high school, she married Dennis J. Hinton in October of 1953 at the Truman Church of Christ. Together with Dennis they had three children (Robert, Cheryl, and Louis) and would go on to live in Duluth, Minn., Stockholm, N.J., and Greenville, S.C. In 1972, Bonny returned home to Fairmont, purchased a home, and began working for Fairmont High School in the kitchen department retiring in 2003 but working part-time till 2012. In 1978, she met her second husband, Wally Zoellmer, and they married on June 3, 1979. Wally and Bonny lived on an acreage near Hwy 15 & 30 in Lewisville raising Arabian horses and gardening. They both were avid polka dancers and attended many dances in The New Ulm area as well. They enjoyed camping in Southern MN and winters in Texas. Bonny is survived by her two children, Cheryl Kremer of Rio Vista, Calif., and Louis Hinton of Truman; stepdaughter-in-law, Melanie Hansen of Rochester; one sister, Judy (Greg) Leonard-Navratil of Gearhart, Ore.; grandchildren Leslie Thompson, James Hinton, Jeremy West, Tyler Hinton, Luke Hinton, and Abby Hinton; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wally Zoellmer; son, Robert Hinton; sister and identical twin, Rondy (Carl) Sorgatz; sister, Jane Leonard-Beyer; and first husband; Dennis J.
