Martha Lee Buckmeier

ELLENDALE -- Martha "Martie" Lee Wehler was born Nov. 27, 1944, to Miriam (Witham) Wehler and Emil Wehler with the help of her maternal grandfather Dr. C.A. Witham at Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. Her father Emil was working at Honeywell during the 2nd World War. After the war, they moved to Fairmont, Minn., where Emil took over Wehler’s Jewelry Store from Martie's fraternal grandfather Herman Wehler. Martie grew up in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1962. She then attended Mankato State College to receive a one-year secretarial certificate.

I was blessed by this angel with our first date on July 15, 1960, followed by our marriage on Sept. 22, 1963. We were blessed with 2 sons, Charles "Chuck" and Andrew "Andy." Martie was a very devoted wife and mother. She loved to read, cook and care for her family, studying nutrition to make sure we were properly nourished. A very loving person as anyone that got to know her can attest. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Martie passed on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, from the ravages of Alzheimer’s. No services for her are planned. Preceding her was our son, Chuck; her parents, Miriam and Emil Wehler; and her brother, Robert "Bob." Surviving is her sister, Mary (MaryBeth) Voorhees; our son, Andy; daughter-in-law, Jody; and grandson, Alex. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Mary DeSart (Don), and Charleen Zoeller (Fred); many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Words cannot describe how much she meant to me and I look forward to the time when we will be together again. Her husband, Cecil R. Buckmeier.
