WINNEBAGO -- Maxine L. Penney, age 93, formerly of Winnebago, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at JB's Homes in Lakeville, Minn. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winnebago. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Blue Earth. Maxine was born May 13, 1929, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Wilheim Archibald "Archie" and Salvina Matilda (Erickson) Nelson. She attended and graduated from Winnebago High School. On Aug. 19, 1947, Maxine married Paul G. Penney. Maxine was a homemaker and a farm wife through and through. She also worked as a librarian at the Winnebago School for some time, and later worked for MET in the assembly line. Maxine loved being a farmer's wife and taking care of her family. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. She had a love for flowers. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Doug (Jan) Penney of Prior Lake, Jeff (Mary) Penney of Eden Prairie, Greg (Connie) Penney of Colorado Springs, Colo., Steve (Carol) Penney of Highland Village, Texas; daughter, Pam Holm of Winnebago; sister, Margaret Kieper; sisters-in-law, LaVonne Maertens and Rosemary Riggs; brother-in-law, Dale Jordan; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; sister, Marlene Jordan; sister-in-law, Nadine Penney; brothers-in-law, Paul Kieper, Francis Penney, Norb Maertens, and Stan Riggs; son-in-law, Bob Holm; grandson, Ryan Penney; and one infant great-granddaughter, Kylie Marie Thoren.
