FAIRMONT -- Private family services for Steven "Stanley" P. Streit, 72, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home, with burial at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery. A time of remembering Stanley's life will be from 3-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. At the conclusion of the visitation, friends and family are invited to join in continuing to celebrate Stanley's life at the Green Mill Restaurant in Fairmont. Stanley passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Steven "Stanley" Patrick Streit was born March 17, 1950, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Otto and Irene (Toppenberg) Streit. Steve attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1968. On Sept. 18, 1971, Steve was united in marriage to Vicky Meeker at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, Minn. Together the couple would make their home on a farm near Fairmont and were blessed with two sons, Matthew and Nathan. Steve was given the nickname of "Stanley" by a dear friend many years ago and was fondly called that by his many friends and family. Those who knew him best loved to share their "Stanley Stories" and there were many stories to share. Stanley cherished life and certainly lived it to the fullest. In his youth, he looked forward to snowy Midwest winters and flying down the trails and ditches on his snowmobile. He had a passion for fast cars and loved the adrenaline rush when putting the accelerator to the floor of his Corvette. In his later years, Stanley enjoyed winters spent in the warmer weather of Florida and going on many Corvette adventures with friends. Stanley's greatest love was his family. He treasured spending time with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by those that loved him and called him a friend. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Vicky Streit; son, Matthew (Jennifer) Streit and their daughters, Allison, Sophia, and Audrey; son, Nathan (Natasha) Streit and their children, Emilia and Ethan; sisters, Elaine (Vernon) Rosenberg, Janice (Mac) Stanton, Marge (James) Bute; brother-in-law, Larry Blachowske; sisters-in-law, Dianne (Carroll) Niss, Darla Meeker, Wanda Saxton, Sharon Elliott, and Robbin Graham-Neusch; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Irene Streit; sisters, Karen Blachowske and Sheila Chaffee; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cecil and Evelyn Meeker; brothers-in-law, Michael Meeker, Howard Elliott Jr., and Brett Graham. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Steve's name to the Fairmont Fire Department Relief Fund, St. Jude's Children Hospital, the Scleroderma Foundation, or to the memorial of the donor's choice. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
