Gerald L. Erickson

CHISAGO CITY -- Gerald L. Erickson peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022, at his home at Point Pleasant in Chisago City, Minn. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at Lakes Free Church in Lindstrom, Minn., with visitation one hour prior to the service. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at the church. A private interment will be at a later date at East Chain Evangelical Free Church Cemetery, East Chain, Minn.

He was born April 16, 1929, in rural Granada, Minn., to Julius and Edna (Nelson) Erickson. He was a 1947 graduate of East Chain High School. He served during the Korean War with the U.S. Marine Corps.

On Aug. 17, 1957, Jerry was united in marriage to Dorothy Ribe at the Evangelical Free Church in Rockford, Ill. Their union was blessed with four children: Tim, Judy, Brad and Rod. Jerry farmed in East Chain, Minn. and drove school bus for the East Chain School District for several years. He also served on the East Chain School Board for more than 15 years. Upon his retirement from farming in 1991, he continued to drive school bus, sell seed-corn, and operate the road-grader and snow plow for the East Chain Township. In 2002, Jerry and Dorothy moved to Lindstrom, Minn., were they enjoyed getting to know new friends in the Chisago Lakes area. Jerry was a lifelong member of The Gideons International. He was an active church member for all of his life, serving as a lay leader and adult Sunday School teacher first at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church and at Lakes Free Church since 2002. He was a friend and encourager to everyone he met. Until the very end of his life he was joyful, contented, and faithfully loved Jesus, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandsons as well his large church family. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents, Julius and Edna; and his sister and brother-in law, Elaine and Dean Peterson. He is survived by his four children, Tim (Carole), Judy (Jim), Brad (Maggie), and Rod Erickson; five grandchildren, Doug (Carissa) Erickson, Angie (Levi) Frost, Joe (Emma) Birkholz, Amelia Birkholz, and Sam Birkholz; three great-grandsons, Ellis and Chet Frost, and Caleb Erickson.
