FAIRMONT -- A memorial service for Clarence "Hap" P. Edhlund, age 92, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Fairmont, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Private family interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.
Hap passed away Saturday morning, July 30, 2022, at Heartland Senior Living in Truman, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Clarence "Hap" Paul Edhlund was born Oct. 17, 1929, in Fairmont, Minn., just in time for the onset of the Great Depression. He was the son of Clarence Gust and Rosa (Wetenkamp) Edhlund. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, Hap overcame great challenges to graduate from Fairmont High School in 1953. Hap always enjoyed working with his hands and started his working career by operating a cleaning business. During the summer he supplemented his cleaning business by mowing lawns throughout Fairmont. Recognizing he had more to offer, Hap learned the shoe repair trade and opened a shoe repair shop in Estherville, Iowa. After a short time, Hap moved his shop to Fairmont, where he was widely regarded for the quality of the service he provided. Later in life, Hap operated three small children's rides at Gomsrud Park adjacent to what was then a miniature golf course. As his life further transitioned, Hap focused on woodworking projects, making bird houses and lawn ornaments for many. Hap continued his woodworking projects until his passing. Hap was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; his mother, Rosa; and his sister, Lucille (Mr. Gerald) Grube. Survivors include niece, Nancy (Mrs. Steven) Teksten of Greeley, Colo.; and nephew, Jim (wife Sheryl) Grube of Plymouth, Minn. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
