Thomas R. Poirot

SHERBURN -- A Mass of Christian Burial to honor the life of Thomas "Tom" R. Poirot, 75, of Sherburn, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sherburn, Minn., with Father Jonathan Fasnacht as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Luke's Catholic Cemetery, Sherburn, Minn.

Tom was called to his eternal rest Tuesday afternoon, July 26, 2022, at his home in Sherburn, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sherburn, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Thomas Robert Poirot was born June 12, 1947, to Robert and Marie (Shearer) Poirot in Algona, Iowa. He was a 1965 graduate of Sherburn High School. After school, he then worked at Morgan furniture store in Sherburn until purchasing and owning Poirot's Grocery Store in Sherburn. On Nov. 21, 1970, he was united in marriage to Lori Studer at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sherburn. Tom ran the grocery store along with his wife, Lori for 39 years. He then was employed at MyGuy in Sherburn. Tom took great pride providing quality cuts of meat and exceptional customer service. He later then started working for PTI transportation service until retiring in 2022. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and it's Knights of Columbus Sherburn Council 8289; Sherburn Lions Club, National Wild Turkey Federation, and was on the state board of NWTF holding the position of choosing college scholarship recipients. Tom was founding member of the Fairmont Bass Seekers club and was a member of the team that placed 1st at the state tournament in 1992. He was Sherburn's first EMT, a local police officer, and served on the Sherburn Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially taking his grandkids hunting and fishing. Tom will be remembered by many for his witty one liners, the best broasted chicken in Minnesota, and his great advice whether you asked for it or not. Tom is survived by his wife, Lori Poirot of Sherburn, Minn.; two daughters, Kim (Kris) Steffes of Estherville, Iowa, and Kelly (Ryan) Kuehl of rural Trimont, Minn.; four grandchildren, Tanner (Angela) Steffes, Spencer Steffes, Remington (Kendra) Kuehl, and Allie Kuehl; two brothers, Jim Poirot of Sherburn, Minn., and Don (Karen) Poirot of Park Rapids, Minn.; mother-in-law, Ronnie Studer of Sherburn, Minn.; eight brothers-in-law, Steve (Nancy) Studer, Wayne (Pat) Studer, Roger (Mary) Studer, Keith Studer, Dale (Kris) Studer, Tom Studer, Don (Laurie) Studer, Rich (Sue) Studer; two sisters-in-law, Eileen (Doug) Whitehead and Flora (Scott) Thiesse; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marie Poirot; son, Robert Poirot; father-in-law, Charlie Studer; sister-in-law, Linda Anderson; and his grandparents. To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.
