RINGSTED -- Mildred "Millie" I. Duer, 100, of Ringsted, Iowa, died Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022, at United Lutheran Church in Ringsted, Iowa, with Vicar Kim Campbell as Officiant. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at United Lutheran Church in Ringsted. Burial will be in Ringsted Memorial Cemetery, Ringsted, Iowa.
Mildred Irene (Shultz) Duer, the daughter of Lee Edward and Esther Susan (Hyer) Shultz, was born June 3, 1922, on the family farm south of Gruver, Iowa. Mildred grew up working on the farm and assisting in raising her three younger sisters, Alice, Audrey and Evelyn. Millie attended Gruver Community School in Gruver, Iowa and Hamilton Business School in Mason City, Iowa. On June 22, 1946, she married her 4-H sweetheart, Leonard Duer, in a double wedding with her sister, Alice and brother-in-law, Art Adams. Len and Millie farmed northwest of Ringsted, Iowa for 38 years before building a home in Ringsted. Millie was a member of United Lutheran Church in Ringsted. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Mildred is survived by her son, Dennis Duer of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Connie (Duer) Langhans and husband Paul of Omaha, Neb.; granddaughter, Sara (Duer) DeVoto and husband Kevin of Kansas City, Mo.; great-granddaughters, Allison DeVoto and Joanna DeVoto of Kansas City, Mo. Preceding Mildred in death were her husband, Leonard; her parents; and her sisters, Alice Adams, Audrey Weitzel and Evelyn Simon.
