Shawn passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at his home in Fairmont, following a courageous fight with cancer. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Shawn Michael Wiederhoeft was born Nov. 16, 1983, in Mankato, Minn., the son of Dale and Cynthia (Mosher) Wiederhoeft. He attended school in Truman and graduated from Truman High School. Following his graduation, Shawn worked for R.E.M and later for Culligan Water of Fairmont. He then worked for Hometown Sanitation before beginning his employment with 3M where he was still currently employed. On Nov. 7, 2009, Shawn was united in marriage to Dawn May at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Minn. Shawn welcomed Dawn's daughters, Bailey and Kori, into his life and the family celebrated the addition of two more children, Cooper and Amelia. In 2014, Shawn was hired as a member of the Fairmont Fire Department, an accomplishment he was extremely proud of. He took great pride in serving his community and standing side by side with his brother's fighting fires and caring for those in need. In addition to the fire department, Shawn was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the 3M Club. Shawn was an amazing dad and loved spending time with his kids and loved cheering on his kids in sporting events. He looked forward to lazy nights spent around the campfire and family like to tease that he was much better at putting fires out than starting them. Shawn's heart was full when he was spending time with family, and he looked forward to warm summer days spent at the lake cabin. At home, Shawn could be found waiting for the fire pager to go off while watching cooking shows and finding new recipes to try. Shawn's love for family and his passion for helping his community will be remembered and greatly missed by those that loved him and called him a friend. Left to cherish Shawn's memory is his wife, Dawn Wiederhoeft; children, Bailey Schwichtenberg, Kori (Zack) Schwichtenberg, Cooper Wiederhoeft, and Amelia Wiederhoeft; parents, Dale and Cindy Wiederhoeft; mother-in-law, Nancy May; siblings, Brent (Susan) Wiederhoeft, Patrick Wiederhoeft, Marc Wiederhoeft, Darin (RaeAnn) Wiederhoeft, and Emma Wiederhoeft; sister-in-law, Brenda (Randy) Lubenow; nieces and nephews, Ethan (Haylee) Lubenow, Emily Lubenow, Spencer Wiederhoeft and Malek Wiederhoeft; grandma, Lynn Marushin; grandma, Delilah Maloney; as well as many dogs and cats. Shawn was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John May; mother-in-law, Florence May; grandparents, James Maloney, and Phyllis and Ole Mosher. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be left in Shawn's name to the Fairmont Fire Department Fireworks Fund, Fairmont Youth Soccer and Hockey Associations, or to the Shawn Wiederhoeft Fund at Profinium Financial. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
