FAIRMONT -- A time of celebrating and remembering the life of Judith "Judy" A. Heupel, 63, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held at a later date. Judith passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Judy Heupel was born March 6, 1959, to Donald and Helen (Coon) Stemmer in Utica, N.Y. She attended schools in New Hartford and Oneida, N.Y., and was a graduate of the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Utica, N.Y. She met her husband, Greg Heupel, while working for St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, Calif. They moved to Fairmont and were married in 1994. Judy worked for the Fairmont Hospital for 27 years until her retirement in December 2019. She liked to go on adventures with her husband, such as on a sailing trip in Tahiti, swimming with the sharks with National Geographic, hot air ballooning in San Diego, Calif., white water rafting on the American River in northern California, skydiving in Minnesota, and was looking forward to parasailing this summer. Judy had many friends that supported her through her multiple battles with cancer and she supported others when the opportunity arose. She was known for her cheesecake and loved dancing when her husband, performed with his band. Besides her husband, Greg, Judy is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Bunting and Janet Stemmer of New York; and her brother, Paul Stemmer of North Carolina. She is also survived by Greg's brothers, Jeff Heupel and Scott Heupel; and Greg's sister, Deb Moeller. Both sides have many nephews and nieces that loved their aunt Judy. Special thanks to all the nurses and doctors that helped her in the end, Dr. Giri, Julie, Renee, Rita, Linda, Brenda, Robin and many more. She is already missed.
